During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), China's economy will grow by more than 35 trillion yuan, despite global crises and trade barriers.
According to Zheng Shanjie, the head of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China will achieve an extraordinary economic growth of over 35 trillion yuan (nearly $5 trillion) between 2021 and 2025. The four-year average growth rate is 5.5 %, an unprecedented result for such a large economy.
At the same time, China has invested heavily in R&D, which has grown by nearly 50 % since 2020, and the number of private enterprises has exceeded 58 million. People's quality of life has improved in health, transport and social security.
In addition, the country has accelerated its transition to a green economy, with clean energy accounting for more than one-third of consumption and CO₂ emissions reduced by more than a billion tonnes. According to Zheng Shanjie, "green is becoming the defining colour of China's quality development".
Yuan Da, Secretary-General of the NDRC, stressed that domestic demand remained a key driver of growth. Consumption accounted for more than half of total growth in the 2021-2024 period and contributed 86 % of economic development.
