Chinese Premier Li Qiang said China is ready to strengthen and deepen cooperation with Serbia to bring more benefits to the people of both countries. He made the remarks during a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut, who visited China on the occasion of the eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.
Li stressed that under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state, Sino-Serbian relations have maintained a strong growth momentum and mutually beneficial cooperation has expanded into various fields. He recalled that the two presidents met twice this year and reached broad consensus on major issues, paving the way for building a community with a shared future between China and Serbia.
The Premier said that China is ready to cooperate with Serbia in a spirit of mutual respect and trust, strongly support the core interests of both sides, deepen the content of bilateral relations, and promote practical and meaningful cooperation that will bring greater benefits to the people of both countries.
Li also pointed to the recommendations adopted at the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China, which laid out a strategic plan for China's development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) and beyond. He stressed China's readiness to align its development plan with Serbia's strategy Serbia 2035, make full use of the bilateral Free Trade Agreement and strengthen the role of the China-Serbia Intergovernmental Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation.
The Prime Minister called for the continuation of key projects, such as the Belgrade-Budapest railway, within the framework of the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative, and for the exploitation of potential in new sectors, including technological innovation, green economy, biomedicine and artificial intelligence, in order to further expand and strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Li also called for strengthening exchanges in the fields of culture, tourism, education and sports to promote deeper understanding and friendship between the nations. He stressed China's readiness to work closely with Serbia in the UN and other multilateral platforms, support China's four major global initiatives, uphold genuine multilateralism, strengthen global governance and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Prime Minister Macut expressed that Serbia and China share a deep traditional friendship and that bilateral relations have improved significantly in recent years. He reaffirmed Serbia's firm support for the one-China principle and China's legitimate position on issues of core interests.
Macut expressed sincere appreciation of China's support for Serbia's economic and social development and readiness to strengthen the high level of exchanges and deepen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, manufacturing, science and technology, artificial intelligence and tourism. He added that China's robust economic growth provides a strong impetus for global sustainable development and that China's 15th Five-Year Plan will create new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Serbia strongly supports the vision of building a community with a shared future and the four global initiatives, and stands ready to strengthen coordination with China in multilateral formats to promote common development and prosperity.
