Pavel Havránek, Chairman of the Czech-Chinese Association, praised China's achievements in the field of ecological transformation and the development of a carbon-free economy. In his assessment, he highlighted President Xi Jinping's idea of ecological civilisation, which has become a central pillar of Chinese politics since 2012, linking economic growth with environmental protection.
„The vision of ‚Green Mountains and Clean Rivers are Gold and Silver‘ represents China's approach to sustainable development. China's modernisation is the modernisation of harmonious coexistence between man and nature,“ Havránek said, adding that green development is now an integral part of China's new development concept.
Havranek pointed to a historic turning point in China's energy sector: more than half of the newly installed electricity sources are now emission-free, and solar and wind power plants are beginning to structurally replace coal. „Carbon dioxide emissions are stabilising. The world is close to the point where an industrial power can grow without increasing pollution,“ konstatoval.
He also recalled the significant changes in everyday life: in major cities, most buses and taxis run on electricity and more than half of new cars sold are electric. „This is not just a technological change, but a change in the quality of life. Smog, which was a symbol of rapid industrialisation, is gradually becoming a thing of the past,“ dodal.
In the field of nature conservation, Havranek appreciated that China's afforestation has reached about a quarter of its territory and large-scale landscape restoration projects have slowed the spread of deserts. „Species that were disappearing decades ago are coming back. It shows that economic growth and conservation don't have to be at odds,“ zdůraznil.
According to Havranek, a fundamental transformation of industry is taking place at the same time - steel production, chemistry and energy are being electrified and use hydrogen. The world's largest emissions trading system is creating an economic incentive to reduce the carbon footprint. „Environmental policy is becoming innovation policy,“ uvedl.
