China is ready to work with all countries of the world to promote peace and common development. In his New Year's speech on the threshold of 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasised this, summarising Beijing's key steps in a year of global uncertainty and outlining the country's ambitious direction for the years ahead.
According to the President, China has consistently stood on the side of dialogue, cooperation and mutual benefit in 2025. At a time of rising tension and uncertainty, the country has profiled itself as a stabilising element in the international environment and promoted openness to the world. Symbolic of this approach was not only the introduction of the Global Governance Initiative, but also the continued commitment to global governance reform.
China is actively engaged in addressing global challenges, particularly in the areas of climate and environmental protection. It has fully implemented both the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, while introducing new Nationally Determined Contributions targets for 2035. It added the Global Clean Energy Cooperation Partnership initiative to strengthen international cooperation on clean energy.
China has also played a strong role within the UN. It has supported its central position in the international system, increased contributions to the China-UN Peace and Development Fund, and co-founded with more than thirty countries the International Organization for Mediation based in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. These steps are intended to contribute to resolving disputes through the rule of law and to maintaining global stability.
On the diplomatic front, China hosted both the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and the Global Leaders‘ Meeting on Women in 2025. Beijing says this is further evidence of its efforts to build partnerships based on equality, openness and cooperation.
In his speech, President Xi Jinping also highlighted domestic achievements. The year 2025 concluded the 14th Five-Year Plan, and he said China had achieved new records in economic strength, technological development and overall national capacity. He placed special emphasis on innovation, which has become a key driver of quality growth.
The number of AI companies in China has exceeded 4,500, and the „AI Plus“ initiative has penetrated industry, finance and healthcare. Robotics has also made significant progress, including the use of humanoid robots in automotive manufacturing, logistics and energy, laying the foundation for a future industry worth trillions of yuan.
Moreover, Chinese innovations are also finding applications beyond the borders. Today, the BeiDou system is in use in more than 140 countries around the world, the technology is helping to combat desertification in Mongolia and Saudi Arabia, and supporting smart agriculture in Egypt, for example. The China-Brazil Science and Technology Innovation Center, which brings clean energy to remote areas, is also an example of international cooperation.
The year 2026 will launch the 15th Five Year Plan. President Xi Jinping concluded by calling for firm and deliberate steps, deeper reforms, further opening up to the world and shared prosperity. China is thus entering a new chapter in its modern development story, he said.
