Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Japan to reflect on its mistakes and correct them as soon as possible, rather than continuing down the wrong path. He emphasised that Japan's persistent mistakes threaten peace and make it necessary to remind people of its historical crimes.
Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, made these statements after visiting Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, where he held strategic dialogues with their foreign ministers. According to him, all countries and people who defend justice have the right to re-examine Japan's historical crimes and the responsibility to consistently prevent the revival of Japanese militarism.
The minister emphasised that strong mutual support on issues of fundamental interest is a key component of the China-Central Asia community with a shared future. China is prepared to be a strong supporter and protector of peace, stability and development in the region and rejects any interference in the internal affairs of Central Asian countries.
Wang Yi also informed his counterparts of China's position on the Taiwan issue and pointed out the incorrect statements and actions of the Japanese leadership, which, according to him, openly violate China's fundamental interests and threaten the post-war international order. According to him, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have unequivocally confirmed that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inseparable part of its territory. They reject any form of „Taiwan independence“ and support the Chinese government's efforts towards national reunification.
The minister recalled that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Taiwan, which had been separated from Japan at that time, was returned to China in accordance with international documents such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation and the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. Wang emphasised that Japan, as the defeated country, must continue to respect these provisions.
According to Wang, Japan should first and foremost deeply reflect on its history of invading and colonising Taiwan and its war crimes committed under militarism, and act with restraint and responsibility. The minister considers open signals of attempts at military intervention in the Taiwan issue to be unacceptable and crossing a „red line“.
Wang Yi emphasised that China must uncompromisingly protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and post-war achievements, while upholding international justice and human conscience. The Chinese people love peace and are friendly to their neighbours, but when it comes to national sovereignty and territorial integrity, there can be no compromise.
