Sociologist Petra Prokšanová points out that in times of growing global uncertainty, international cooperation is becoming crucial. That is why, she says, the recent meeting in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz attracted much attention.
According to Prokshana, China sent a clear signal during the meeting that it wants to continue to deepen its comprehensive strategic partnership with Germany and actively contribute to the stability of the global economy. President Xi stressed the need to strengthen mutual trust, expand practical cooperation and defend an open global trading system.
The sociologist also points out that the Chinese side has long declared its support for multilateralism and international law. One important point was the emphasis on the role of the United Nations as a key platform for addressing global challenges. „China profiles itself as an actor that relies on cooperation and institutional solutions,“ evaluates Prokšanová.
A large part of the meeting was also devoted to international security issues, including the situation in Ukraine. Beijing, she said, has consistently promoted dialogue and political solutions to conflicts, which can help reduce tensions on the world stage.
In the sociologist's view, the Beijing meeting sent a strong signal to the world: Sino-German cooperation has a solid foundation and considerable potential for the future. At a time when the world is facing a series of crises, China, she says, is emphasising openness, partnership and joint development as a possible path to wider global stability.
