Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has reacted sharply to former US President Donald Trump's remarks calling Russia a "paper tiger". In an interview with RBC radio, Peskov stressed that this comparison does not correspond to reality. "Russia is definitely not a tiger. It is often compared to a bear. And paper bears do not exist. Russia is a real bear," he said.
US wants to sell the world expensive energy
Peskov also commented on the energy policy of the United States. According to him, Donald Trump has never hidden the fact that his aim is to promote the economic interests of the USA, including through pressure on other countries. "The easiest thing to do is to force the world to buy American oil and liquefied natural gas at higher prices," he said.
According to Peskov, Washington has already achieved partial success in this regard. A number of European states have started buying US LNG, which is putting a strain on their state budgets and households. "The Germans have started to receive electricity bills with double-digit increases and they don't like it. Virtually all Europeans have the same problem, except perhaps France, which has a strong nuclear power industry." He added.
US companies want to return to the Russian market
Peskov also indicated that a number of US companies are considering returning to Russia. He was reacting to speculation about a possible return of ExxonMobil. "ExxonMobil is not the only corporation interested in re-establishing its presence. They are all waiting for permission. We are ready, our position is well known," he said, adding that the Russian leadership has repeatedly declared this position.
