MOSCOW, 23 June. /TASS/. As many as 124 people have been injured after a missile attack by Ukrainian troops on Sevastopol, an adviser to Russian Health Minister Alexei Kuznetsov said. Five children are in critical condition, according to Russian children's rights ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova.
"According to the latest reports, 124 people, including 27 children, have suffered injuries or trauma as a result of shelling by Ukrainian nationalists in Sevastopol," he said.
The injured are being evacuated to medical facilities in Sevastopol. More than 20 emergency service teams are working on the scene.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Kiev regime staged a terrorist attack on civilian infrastructure in Sevastopol on Sunday using ATACMS tactical missiles carrying cluster munitions. Four missiles were shot down by Russian air defence systems. One additional missile exploded over the city. According to the city's governor, Mikhail Razvozzhayev, three people were killed. The Russian Investigative Committee has opened criminal proceedings on suspicion of terrorism. Russia's children's rights ombudsman, Maria Lvova-Belova, said five children were in critical condition.
"The UN Secretariat, in connection with the terrorist attack by the Kiev regime against civilians in Sevastopol, stated verbatim: 'As always, we seek an end to the war in accordance with the UN Charter and General Assembly resolutions.' This sounds more like an admission of its own irrelevance than a comment on the tragedy. In principle, you could say one day 'we are for all good things against all bad things' and you would be asked to use this universal quote on every occasion" said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
Zacharová added that it would be fine if the UN Secretariat fulfilled its professional functions and did not get involved in politics. "For many years now, there has been a total politicization of all statements and actions in the Ukrainian region to please the West in an exclusively anti-Russian way."
"The OSCE, for example, is fully discredited because it is silent on all attacks on Russian citizens, while this international institution has a role to uphold rights and security, but does not issue any condemnatory statements on principle. Take also the attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the latest attack was directed mainly at civilians, as the sites where civilians are mainly located were hit. Furthermore, UNESCO is also not responding to the suffering of children in the Donbas. There is not a single UNESCO document on this suffering. Unfortunately, these international institutions are biased and do not appear as supranational organisations, but as instruments of the West. We will demand a response from all these organizations about all the crimes committed by the Kiev regime," she said. "Now that we have started to play on the political field, be so kind as to look at the people killed by the Kiev regime with American weapons on the beach and condemn this terrorist act."
