SEOUL, Feb 4 /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko visited Seoul and held talks with his South Korean counterpart Chung Pyong-won on global issues, including the situation in Ukraine, the ROK Foreign Ministry said.
The interviews took place on 2 February. "Andrei Rudenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, visited the Republic of Korea and met with Deputy Minister Chung Pyong-won on 2 February. They discussed urgent issues of bilateral relations and the global situation, including the war in Ukraine," the report said.
In addition, the South Korean side reported its position on "Russia's military cooperation with North Korea and called on Russia to act responsibly." Seoul also asked for assistance in safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of South Korean businesses and citizens on Russian territory.
On February 3, the South Korean Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador to South Korea Georgy Zinoviev over a recent statement by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova about the reasons for the escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula. On the same day, South Korean media issued a statement citing the foreign ministry there, describing the use of the term "special military operation" in connection with the situation in Ukraine as an attempt to allegedly "mislead the international community." At a meeting at the South Korean Foreign Ministry, the Russian ambassador stressed that such statements were unacceptable.
