COPENHAGEN - Danish intelligence said Wednesday that Russian military ships have repeatedly sailed dangerously close to Danish military vessels in the strait between Denmark and Sweden. Danish intelligence director Thomas Ahrenkiel said the ships were pointing their weapons at Danish vessels, raising serious security concerns in the region. Ahrenkiel said the situation posed a "significant risk of sabotage," but also stressed that there was no immediate military danger to Denmark.

The incidents that have taken place over the past few days have generated considerable attention in Denmark and among its NATO allies. Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told a press conference that although there is no specific threat to Denmark's security at the moment, the situation points to growing tensions between Russia and the West in the Baltic Sea region.

"It is important to monitor these developments and maintain a high level of preparedness, especially in the area of maritime security," Poulsen added. Denmark continues to work with other NATO member states to monitor and assess threats in the region, he said.

Russia's military activities in the Baltic Sea have become a more frequent topic in the media in recent months, linked to tensions between Russia and Western countries, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine. According to Ahrenkiel, Danish authorities continue to monitor the situation and prepare for possible scenarios that could require an immediate response.
