Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that the ongoing protests in many parts of the country are "pure terrorism" and that the government will take strong measures to restore peace and order in the country.
In a televised speech the same day, Vucic said that the months-long protests were instigated by the West with the aim of destroying Serbia.
Vucic said that in the next few days, decisive measures will be taken to address the current situation and all available resources will be used to restore peace and order in the country. However, he did not give a specific explanation.
In recent days, protests have erupted in the Serbian capital Belgrade and other cities such as Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac and Valjevo. Demonstrators have clashed with police and supporters of the ruling party. The office of the ruling Serbian Progress Party in Valjevo was set on fire by demonstrators. According to local media, more than a hundred police officers and citizens have been injured in the clashes so far and dozens of others have been arrested.
