Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Prak Sokhonn, Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, southern China.
Wang Yi stated that the Chinese side welcomes the ceasefire agreement reached between the Cambodian and Thai military sides, saying that the ceasefire fully meets the common desire of the Cambodian and Thai people and is in line with the general expectations of all countries in the region.
The ceasefire will initiate the process of peace reconstruction. Both the Cambodian and Thai sides should gradually promote a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, resume normal exchanges, rebuild mutual trust, and protect regional peace and stability, Wang Yi said, adding that the Chinese side supports ASEAN in playing its due role and is willing to assist the ASEAN observer mission in monitoring the ceasefire and provide humanitarian supplies to the Cambodian side.
Prak Sokhonn praised the active role played by the Chinese side in mediating the conflict. Thanks to the efforts of the Chinese side and all other parties, the Cambodian and Thai military sides reached a ceasefire agreement. The Cambodian side is willing to work with the Thai side to comprehensively implement the ceasefire agreement and strengthen mutual trust between the two armies. It hopes that the meeting of the three parties will contribute to the reconstruction of lasting peace.
The two sides also exchanged views on bilateral relations between China and Cambodia.
