Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, met with Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Cambodia, in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, in southern China.

Wang Yi stated that the Chinese side welcomes the agreement reached between the Cambodian and Thai military sides to cease hostilities. This ceasefire fully reflects the common desire of the people of Cambodia and Thailand, and aligns with the general expectations of all countries in the region.

The ceasefire will initiate the process of restoring peace. Both the Cambodian and Thai sides should gradually promote a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, resume normal exchanges, rebuild mutual trust, and protect regional peace and stability, Wang Yi said. He added that the Chinese side supports ASEAN, which plays a proper role, and is willing to assist the ASEAN observer mission in monitoring the ceasefire, and is also willing to provide humanitarian materials to the Cambodian side.

Prak Sokhonn praised the active role played by the Chinese side in mediating the conflict. Thanks to the efforts of the Chinese side and all other parties, the Cambodian and Thai military sides have reached an agreement to cease hostilities. The Cambodian side is willing to work with the Thai side to comprehensively implement the ceasefire agreement and strengthen mutual trust between the two militaries. He hopes that the trilateral meeting will contribute to the restoration of lasting peace.

The two sides also exchanged views on bilateral relations between China and Cambodia.
