Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called for continuous efforts and the establishment of long-term mechanisms to implement the Central Party leadership's directives on the eight-point Decision on Improving the Party's Conduct and Work.
Xi, who is also China's president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, expressed these views in guidelines released at a meeting on China's CC building held in Beijing on Friday. He stressed that the Party's conduct - which determines its image - determines the level of support it enjoys among the people and its very survival, and called for persistent efforts to ensure that the aforementioned guidelines are consistently applied.
Xi said that the latest education campaign to thoroughly implement the said decision has been carried out conscientiously and has achieved significant results.
Stressing that unnecessary formalism, bureaucratism, hedonism and waste are persistent and recurring problems, Si called for the education campaign to be more targeted and effective and for regular mechanisms to be established and improved to detect and address these problems.
He also called for the full use of the role of public oversight and for strict and swift prosecution and sanctioning of violators of party rules.
The document defines the rules of conduct for Politburo members during research visits, meetings and documentation, while prohibiting extravagances such as lavish banquets, red carpets and luxury perks.
These rules have become a permanent party measure to curb unnecessary formalities, bureaucratism, hedonism and waste - tendencies which, as noted, threaten to alienate the party from the people.
