A symposium hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing on 23 July to discuss the current economic situation and economic policy priorities for the second half of the year. The meeting was chaired by Xi Jinping, who stressed the need for stability, flexibility and meeting the annual development targets.
At the meeting there was a call for maintaining stability in the labour market, supporting businesses and boosting domestic consumptionas well as to curb unhealthy competition. According to Xi Jinping, it is essential to continue to build a new development model and link the domestic and international market.
In addition to the President, the symposium was attended by members of the Politburo Standing Committee Li Qiang, Wang Huning, Cai Qi and Ding Xuexiang, along with representatives of democratic parties and economic organisations.
