President Xi Jinping at the start Global Leaders' Meeting on Women Beijing announced a series of new steps to promote the comprehensive development of women. The initiatives aim to expand international cooperation, improve conditions for women's advancement and ensure better protection of their rights.
China under the new plan will provide $10 million agency UN Women and others $100 million shall be allocated from the Fund Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for projects for women and girls in developing countries. The programme will also include 1 000 local projects to support women's livelihoods and education, and 50 000 women will be invited to China for exchange and training programmes.
Foreign officials, including Amina J. Mohammed from the UN and the President of Iceland Hally Tomasdottir, appreciated China's proposals and recalled the importance of the 1995 Beijing Declaration, which remains a key document for promoting gender equality.
