BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday stressed efforts to achieve a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a meeting hosted by China's top political advisory body to mark the arrival of the New Year.
In conveying New Year greetings, Xi called on the entire Party and the people of all ethnic groups in the country to unite even more closely and continuously open up new perspectives to promote China's modernization.
He described 2025 as an extraordinary year in which China has met major economic and social development goals, demonstrated strong economic resilience and vitality, and maintained overall social stability.
Last year was also the year of the completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), with China's overall national strength reaching a new level, Xi said.
With 2026 marking the start of the 15th Five Year Plan, he called for efforts at various levels to ensure a good start to the new period.
Xi stressed that the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) should focus its consultative and deliberative work on the formulation and implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, so as to gather broad support and strength for pushing forward China's modernization.
The meeting was chaired by Wang Huning, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
The event was also attended by other Party and state leaders, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng.
The programme also included an artistic performance.
