YEREVAN – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the victory of his Civil Contract party in the parliamentary elections held on June 7, 2026. According to him, the ruling party has received sufficient support to independently form a new government and continue its political program.

“The parliamentary elections were held on June 7, 2026, and the Civil Contract party won. The Civil Contract party will form the government itself,” Pashinyan said during a press conference broadcast by Armenian television stations. The elections were considered one of the most important in the country's modern history. The voting took place at a time when Armenia is undergoing major geopolitical changes, seeking to normalize relations with Azerbaijan, while also seeking a new balance between cooperation with the European Union and traditional ties with Russia.

Although the initial results suggested a significant lead for the ruling party, as the vote counting continued, its support gradually decreased. According to data from the Armenian Central Election Commission, from more than half of the polling stations, the Civil Contract party received approximately 51 percent of the votes. The second place was taken by the Strong Armenia business bloc led by Samvel Karapetyan, while the third place was taken by the opposition alliance led by former President Robert Kocharyan.

The atmosphere of the elections was marked by increased security measures. After the polling stations closed, reinforced police units were deployed to the center of Yerevan. The authorities stated that this was a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining public order during the vote counting and the publication of the results. Pashinyan described the result as confirmation of the country's current direction. He emphasized that his government intends to continue its policy of rapprochement with Europe, while at the same time not wanting to disrupt economic and political relations with Russia.

According to the Prime Minister, it remains a priority to complete the peace negotiations with Azerbaijan and to further modernize the Armenian state. The final official results of the elections will be confirmed after the completion of the counting of all votes. However, it is already clear that the Civil Contract party will remain the strongest political force in the country, and Pashinyan has retained the mandate to lead Armenia in the coming years.
