Havana, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today rejected the US blockade and asked for his country to be removed from the State Department's list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism. In the presence of army general Raúl Castro and thousands of Havana residents who gathered on behalf of the Cuban people to march in front of the US embassy, the head of state demanded respect for the island's right to build its future in peace.
He condemned the fact that the current US administration, 30 days before the end of its term, has not changed the policies of its predecessor Donald Trump (2017-2021), who will take office again next month. By imposing 243 additional measures and keeping Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, Biden has disciplined and harshly followed the policy that Trump approved during his term, he said.
He denounced the fact that the current US administration, 30 days before the end of its term, has not changed the policies of its predecessor, Donald Trump (2017-2021), who will resume the presidency next month. By imposing 243 additional measures and keeping Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, Biden has disciplined and harshly adhered to the policy that Trump approved during his term, he said.
He stressed that singling out Cuba as a state that allegedly sponsors terrorism is at the very least false and immoral, wherever the accusation comes from, but doubly so if it comes from US territory. From there, he denounced, paramilitary groups are being trained right now to organise, support and finance terrorist actions against social and economic structures in Cuba. The continued listing of Cuba and the tightening of the blockade policy are actions against the Cuban people and must stop immediately, he said.
Díaz-Canel affirmed that this march is not directed against the American people, towards whom Cuba does not profess the slightest feeling of hatred or hostility, but against the determination of the government of this power to take away the sovereignty, independence and socialism of the island, in the face of which, according to him, it will always be met with rebellion and intransigence. He also recalled that his country had extended its hand to all the governments of the United States from the victory of the Revolution to the present day, always in a sense of serious, respectful and equal relationship. We will march now and always against the plan of US imperialism and its attempt to impose itself by force or seduction, the Cuban President noted.
