Russia considers possible EU sanctions against Russian gas purchases illegal and counterproductive and will find a way to supply the products to those who want them, Energy Minister Sergei Tsvaryov told reporters.

"They've been trying to do this for a long time, but we find a way to sell our products. There is a demand for them in the world, there are many consumers who want to buy them. We believe that the measures they are using in the form of sanctions are illegal and counterproductive, even for the people of these countries. We are already seeing the consequences. We think it is quite possible that they will make their declarations, but we will find a way to supply our products to those who want them, and the demand for our products is great. Not just for gas, oil and petroleum products," řekl.

Earlier, the European Commission presented initiatives to completely refuse Russian gas supplies. The plan outlines the intention to ban new Russian gas import agreements and spot contracts by the end of 2025. The EC also wants to ban imports of Russian pipeline gas and LNG under existing contracts by the end of 2027. Final legally binding proposals will be submitted to the EC in June.
