The Election Commission of the International Union of Journalists (IUJ) has officially announced the results of the elections for the Executive Board for the period 2025-2027, which took place on October 5, 2025. The elections were conducted in full compliance with the IUJ Constitution, ensuring transparency, fairness, and broad participation from journalists – members from various regions of the world.
According to the official results, Carlos Felipe Villa Prado from Chile was elected President, while Rosan Puri from Nepal was elected First Vice-President. The other elected Vice-Presidents are Héctor Parra Gonzalez from Mexico, Nelson Del Castillo from Puerto Rico, and Dulashi Darmasena from Sri Lanka, who represents women journalists. Z. A. Muhammad from Pakistan was elected Secretary-General, while Sudewa Hettiarachchi from Sri Lanka and Martin Kalous from the Czech Republic were elected Deputy Secretaries-General. Denisa Petrilaková from the Czech Republic was elected Treasurer, and Marek Traczyk from Poland was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee.
The elected members of the Executive Committee are Dipendra Kunwar from Nepal, Jaime Villarroel from Chile, René Vega Giles from Mexico, Roman Blaško from the Czech Republic, Adeel Shahid from Pakistan, and Sabin Dhamala from Nepal.
In a related announcement, Muhammad Masood Younis has been appointed Chief Coordinator and Spokesperson of the International Union of Journalists (IUJ). The IUJ expressed its appreciation to all participants, national journalistic associations, and observers for upholding democratic values, transparency, and professionalism throughout the electoral process. The newly elected leadership is committed to strengthening international solidarity among journalists, defending press freedom, and promoting ethical journalism worldwide.
