PRAGUE - Last week, President Petr Pavel met with the Governor of the Czech National Bank, Mr. Aleš Michl. In addition to discussing the CNB's monetary policy and the current economic situation, the President informed the Governor of his decision to appoint Mr. Jakub Seidler to the CNB's Board.

The appointment will take effect on December 1, 2024, when the term of the current member of the CNB's Board expires.

Jakub Seidler (born September 3, 1983) studied economics at the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University in Prague, where he also obtained his Ph.D. He began his career in 2008 at the Czech National Bank, where he worked in various specialist positions in the financial stability, research, and monetary departments for six years. Later, as head of the macroprudential policy department, he was primarily responsible for conducting stress tests of the banking sector and analyzing financial stability. During his time at the central bank, he completed several courses focused on econometrics, financial stability, and monetary policy at international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the ECB, and the Bank of England.

From 2014 to 2021, he served as the Chief Economist at ING Bank for the Czech Republic, where he focused on macroeconomic analysis and forecasts for the Czech economy, developments in financial markets, and prospects for monetary and fiscal policy. In 2018, he was appointed by the Czech government as a member of the Budget Forecasting Committee, which assesses the credibility of the Ministry of Finance's macroeconomic forecasts. Since mid-2021, he has been the Chief Economist at the Czech Banking Association, where he oversees expert economic and financial analyses and the creation of regular macroeconomic forecasts.

Jakub Seidler is a respected expert who regularly comments on the development of the Czech economy in the media, particularly monetary policy, the exchange rate of the Czech crown, interest rates, inflation, and the credit market.
