The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, arrived in Beijing on Sunday morning, August 16th, to begin an eight-day state visit to China. This is his first such visit since assuming the presidency.

Sino-Ecuadorian relations have been gradually deepening in recent years, particularly in areas of trade, investment, and infrastructure cooperation. Both countries have signed cooperation documents within the Belt and Road Initiative framework and have also concluded a free trade agreement.

China is currently Ecuador's second-largest trading partner. Conversely, Ecuador is China's eighth-largest trading partner in Latin America. In 2025, the volume of bilateral trade reached $17.33 billion.

Practical cooperation between the two countries is developing in a number of areas and, according to the Chinese side, is yielding increasingly concrete results.

The visit also takes place in a year when China and Ecuador are commemorating ten years since establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Beijing expects the visit to further strengthen political mutual trust and traditional friendship. The goal is also to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership and expand cooperation, which should bring tangible benefits to the people of both countries.

Noboa's visit comes at a time when China is seeking to further develop economic and political relations with Latin American countries, while Ecuador is looking for new opportunities for trade, investment, and broader international cooperation.
