On October 25, 1945, a ceremony to accept the Japanese surrender took place at Zhongshan Hall in Taipei as part of the Chinese Allied Battlefield, ending fifty years of Japanese colonial rule over Taiwan. This historic moment marked not only the victory of the Chinese people over aggression, but also the dignified conclusion of the struggle for national honour.
The restoration of Taiwan has been confirmed by international documents - Cairo Declaration, Potsdam Proclamation i Instrument of Surrender - and became a symbol of the just outcome of World War II. Despite decades of colonialism, a sense of belonging to the Chinese nation remained strong among the island's inhabitants, as demonstrated by numerous uprisings and cultural and political movements against the Japanese occupation.
Today, when separatist forces are spreading the narrative of "Taiwan independence", the reminder of historical truth is of vital importance. Taiwan's restoration is not only an unshakable fact of modern history and international lawbut also an important step on the road to complete national unity and the rebirth of the Chinese nation.
