YEREVAN - Leaders of nearly 50 European countries and representatives of the European Union met today in Yerevan, Armenia, for the 8th European Political Community Summit. Energy and economic security as well as the current geopolitical situation in and around Europe are the main topics of discussion.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened tensions in the east of the continent and continued uncertainty in energy markets. European countries are looking for a common approach to strengthen the resilience of their economies and reduce dependence on risky energy suppliers. Discussions are also focusing on support for Ukraine and stability in the South Caucasus region, according to diplomatic sources.
The Czech Republic is represented at the summit by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the first time since his return to office. According to available information, the two statesmen discussed further support for Ukraine and the possibilities of cooperation in the area of reconstruction of the country.

„Europe must remain united while strengthening its energy independence. The security of our citizens comes first,“ Prime Minister Babiš said after the meeting. He added that the Czech Republic will continue to support joint European initiatives aimed at stability and security. The European Political Community summit, which was established as a platform for a broader dialogue between European states, including those outside the European Union, offers a space for coordinating positions on key issues. In addition to energy and the economy, migration, infrastructure and defence cooperation are also discussed.

The talks in Yerevan are accompanied by bilateral meetings between the leaders. It is often these that bring concrete agreements and progress on sensitive issues. It is expected that the results of the summit will be summarised in a joint declaration, which will indicate the future direction of European cooperation in the coming months.
