BRUSSELS, March 20. The end of the conflict in the Middle East depends on the political will and decisions of the United States, said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

"The war must end, <...> and I believe that it is up to the United States to stop it. It is possible [to end the war], but it depends on the political will to do so. <...> I am convinced that Israel's strategy is to completely destroy Iran's military capabilities and to effect a change of regime. And I believe that Iran has a strategy to resist for as long as possible and to inflict as much damage as possible. Therefore, the key to resolving the problem is for the United States to decide to declare that its work is done. <...> President [of the United States, Donald] Trump will be able to convince those who need to be convinced that the work is finished, that it can end," Guterres was quoted by Politico Europe.
