HAVANA - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said Friday, March 13, that Cuban officials recently held talks with representatives of the U.S. government on ways to ease tensions between the two countries through dialogue. He said communication between the countries is essential to resolving long-standing differences that affect political and economic relations.
The President stressed that the Cuban government was ready to continue negotiations and to seek practical solutions to the problems that burden bilateral relations. Havana, he said, was seeking more stable communication with Washington, which could contribute to a gradual improvement in the situation between the two countries.

The President's statement came at a time when the island country is facing serious energy problems. According to Cuban authorities, Cuba has been unable to import new fuel supplies for the past three months, which has put a significant strain on the domestic energy system and led to power cuts in some regions of the country. The Cuban government is therefore looking for alternative ways to mitigate the effects of the current crisis. One of the main steps is the expansion of electricity production from renewable sources, particularly photovoltaic plants. According to energy sector officials, the government is trying to speed up the construction of solar parks and increase the share of solar energy in the national grid.

At the same time, state institutions are also focusing on boosting domestic oil and gas production. The aim of these measures is to reduce the country's dependence on energy imports and to stabilise the supply of electricity to the population and industry. President Díaz-Canel said that the energy situation was one of the main challenges facing the Cuban economy today. He said that it was therefore necessary to combine diplomatic efforts at international level with domestic investment in energy infrastructure in order for the country to overcome the current difficulties and ensure a more stable energy future.
