MOSCOW/KYEV - The Ukrainian delegation has invited Russia to hold another round of talks next week, Vladimir Zelensky said. He said the proposal was put forward by Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council and head of the Kiev delegation to the Istanbul talks.
"Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Umerov said he had invited the Russian side to hold another meeting next week. The negotiations need to be accelerated," Zelensky said in a video speech posted on his Telegram channel.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a July 17 response that Russia was waiting for Kiev's proposals for a third round of talks. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier that a Moscow delegation was ready to travel to Istanbul for a third round of talks with Ukraine. Zakharova expressed hope that Kiev would act in the spirit of the agreements already reached "and continue the negotiation process."
