"We know how to address the challenges of the future," says Jana Holomčík Leitnerová, the Pirate Party candidate for regional governor of South Moravia.
For the past 4 years, the Pirates have been part of the leadership of the South Moravian Region. During this time, they have managed to develop social services, support innovation and entrepreneurship in the region, and increase funding for agriculture and environmental protection. They are entering the election campaign with the slogan "Challenge Accepted" and presented their main priorities for the coming years in Freedom Square.
The region faces challenges such as an aging population and increasing demands on social services and healthcare, the depopulation of rural areas and the availability of housing, and the further impacts of climate change on the region's landscape, as well as further development and improvement of education in the region. The South Moravian Region faces many challenges, and the Pirates are ready to address them. "We have plans for the sustainable development of social services, which includes training future qualified staff and utilizing modern and assistive technologies. This will allow us to increase the number of people providing care to citizens in their homes, and at the same time, expand the number of beds in residential care facilities each year," says Jana Holomčík Leitnerová, the Pirates' lead candidate.
The second candidate on the list is Petr Vlasák, the deputy mayor of Breclav and an educator. "Modernizing schools, innovating teaching methods, and supporting talent are the ways to overcome the challenges that lie ahead. Students are the future of our region and the hope for further development, whether we are talking about business, healthcare, or culture. South Moravia is the most innovative region in the Czech Republic. New ideas, future entrepreneurs, and creative people are born here. Whether you are starting your own project or running a company, we will ensure that you have the conditions in which you can thrive," says Petr Vlasák.
More funding will be allocated to the protection of soil and the landscape, as well as to support sustainable agriculture, which is also related to supporting projects aimed at protecting against flash floods, regular floods, and other extreme weather events. This was championed by Lukáš Dubec, the deputy regional governor, who is running for the Pirates in third place. "We want to continue supporting the protection of the landscape and measures to retain water in the region. We will also focus on promoting greenery in cities, both through planting and maintenance. A key challenge will be to reduce the region's energy dependence, for municipalities, cities, and residents. We will support community and shared energy initiatives, which help households and municipalities reduce their dependence on energy giants. The region has an energy concept, and as Pirates, we are already advocating for reducing the energy consumption of buildings owned by the region," says Lukáš Dubec.
"Our goal is for South Moravia to be a place that offers security, support, peace, and a fulfilling life. Whether it's mental health, affordable housing, a healthy environment, quality education, or good support for families and entrepreneurs. We want our region to be a place where it is good to live and work, where you don't have to worry about your future, and where everyone can find help when they need it," concludes Jana Holomčík Leitnerová.
