The government of Andrej Babiš has approved the creation of the position of the Government Commissioner for the fulfilment of the Czech Republic's commitments to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation at the Ministry of Defence and its statute. At the same time, it appointed Jakub Landovský, former Czech Ambassador to NATO, to this position. It also discussed a draft new law on master qualifications and master examination and the intention to implement a project to build a brewery in Azerbaijan with the participation of the national enterprise Budějovický Budvar.
New Government Plenipotentiary for the Implementation of the Czech Republic's NATO Commitments Jakub Landovský's main task is to ensure coordination between central administrative authorities, cooperation with relevant Czech institutions and NATO structures and support the Czech Republic's commitments in the field of defence, security, resilience and related expenditures. „It's not a newsagent. Mr Landovský will continue to work at the Ministry of Defence. This morning we also met together with the Defence Minister and we discussed how we will proceed.“ stated Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
Government amended the government resolution of 9 April 2025, which concerns the assessment of the fulfilment of the Maastricht convergence criteria and the degree of economic alignment of the Czech Republic with the euro area. Instead of the original deadline of the assessment in the first quarter of 2026, it set a new deadline of the first quarter of 2030.„We think it is completely unnecessary to discuss every year what our position is on the euro. We do not want the euro, so let the next government sort it out sometime in the first quarter of 2030. For us, there is no reason to talk about it,“ Babiš explained.
The Cabinet also discussed the possibility of implementing in Azerbaijan brewery construction project with the participation of the national company Budějovický Budvar. Babiš discussed the joint project with Azerbaijani President Aliyev during his trip to Central Asia. „It would be great if we could invest there. Everybody is queuing up for gas supplies, but we think we could do other projects which could improve our bargaining position in trying to secure gas or other raw materials,“ stated the Prime Minister.
The government also discussed a proposal for a new the Act on the Master's Qualification and the Master's Examination. The aim of the law is to introduce a transparent, uniform and universally recognised system of master examinations, and thus to correct the current situation where some professional associations representing individual crafts provide professional examinations, but the whole system is fragmented and focused only on the members of those particular associations. At present, there is no legislation in the Czech Republic that would enable secondary school graduates in craft professions to demonstrate that they have deepened their professional qualifications as a result of their experience. The introduction of the master qualification and the master examination will also signal a high level of quality to customers.
