Chinese Premier Li Qiang said in a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres that China is ready to work with the United Nations to implement the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) and promote a fairer system of global governance. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Li said the GGI initiative was introduced by President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, where he called for joint action to reform global institutions and strengthen international cooperation. The Premier stressed that China will continue to uphold the role of the UN as a key platform for dialogue and coordination, while supporting the UN's 2030 development agenda.

He warned against growing unilateralism and protectionism, which he said threatened the world economy, and called on the countries of the global South to stand together to defend justice and international balance. He stressed the need for concrete steps to strengthen free trade and shared prosperity.

António Guterres praised China's role as a strong pillar of the UN and supported the ideas of the GGI, which he said were in line with the values and goals of the UN. He expressed his wish to strengthen cooperation with China in reforming the global governance system, addressing climate change and developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of all humanity.
