In response to a question regarding the strengthening of Japan's military presence on Pacific islands, including the deployment of an anti-ship missile battery on Minamitorishima Island, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that Beijing views this move as further evidence of Japan's accelerating remilitarization.
Lin recalled that during World War II, Japan caused immense suffering to Asian countries and other parts of the world through its aggression and expansion, and committed grave crimes. According to him, however, Tokyo today not only fails to show sufficient remorse for the past, but is simultaneously heading in the wrong direction again. He also said Japan is fabricating a false image of threats from neighboring countries in order to justify further strengthening of its military capabilities.
"The facts prove that Japan's remilitarization already constitutes a real threat to regional peace and stability, and the international community must remain vigilant," Lin Jian said.
The spokesman also called on Japan to stop what he described as spreading disinformation and conducting smear campaigns, to sincerely confront its wartime past, learn from history, and step back from its current course of military buildup.
