China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, on Tuesday called on BRICS countries to strengthen cooperation and jointly respond to current security challenges.

During a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu in New Delhi, India, Wang Yi stated that BRICS countries should contribute to safeguarding the security environment and provide greater certainty to a world undergoing a period of turbulence and uncertainty.

Wang Yi, who is a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, is attending the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors and High Representatives Meeting in New Delhi.

The Chinese diplomat also called for China and Russia to strengthen coordination and cooperation. According to him, both countries should contribute to the further development, strengthening, and increased significance of the BRICS mechanism in international affairs.
