Chinese Vice President Han Zheng addressed the plenary session of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday, calling for strengthened international cooperation and accelerated reform of the global governance system. He noted that the world faces increasingly complex challenges that no country can solve alone.
In his speech, he pointed out that the international environment is undergoing profound changes, the likes of which the world has not seen in a century. At the same time, he said that problems related to global governance are increasing, and the need to find common solutions at the international level is becoming more apparent.
Han Zheng recalled that the Initiative for Global Governance proposed by China has received support from nearly 160 countries and international organizations. He said that it is gradually becoming an important platform for promoting dialogue, cooperation, and joint development.
He also mentioned the establishment of the Group of Friends of Global Governance at the United Nations. According to him, this group promotes the protection of the goals and principles of the UN Charter, supports genuine multilateralism, and rejects unilateral actions in international relations.
"China, as the initiator of the Initiative for Global Governance, is fulfilling its commitments through concrete actions and actively supports the reform and improvement of the global governance system," said Han Zheng.
He said that China and Russia also play a significant role in this process. As major countries and permanent members of the UN Security Council, they bear a special responsibility for promoting stability and developing a more just and effective system of international relations.
Han Zheng also emphasized that China is ready to cooperate with Russia and other countries to further promote the Initiative for Global Governance. The goal is to create an open, inclusive, and fair world based on mutual respect, dialogue, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Chinese Vice President also met with the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan. During the meeting, they discussed the development of bilateral relations and current international issues of common interest.
