The winter season at Prague Zoo was once again enlivened by the Garden of Lights evening multimedia educational exhibition. Over two hundred larger-than-life lanterns in the shape of animals and plants light up the lower part of the grounds after sunset, creating a captivating atmosphere.
Visitors can look forward to a 60-metre-long light tunnel, interactive projections, a quiz trail and, for the first time ever, moving animal figures. Light installations will transport them to Wild Asia, where they will encounter the most charismatic animal species of the largest continent.
As was the case last year, some of the lanterns were made especially for Prague Zoo. Last year, the theme was Wild Africa, featuring gorillas and okapi, this time the choice fell on Przewalski's horses, which have been associated with the zoo's history practically since its foundation and which the zoo is successfully returning to the wild in Mongolia and Kazakhstan, or Edwards's pheasant, a critically endangered ground-nesting bird for which Prague Zoo runs the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP).
New this year are moving lanterns, including a Sumatran tiger, snow leopard, Indian mandelík, and red panda. The largest figures are an elephant and an Indian rhinoceros. Among the most impressive are a saltwater crocodile and a Bornean orangutan. In total, the project presents 42 animal species.
The Light Zoo will be open until mid-February, every weekday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The exhibition will be closed on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and Mondays and Tuesdays after 6 January. A separate admission fee applies this year as well. Under certain conditions, you can also visit with your dog; tickets for dogs can be purchased at the ticket office. The exhibition has its own ticket office and entrance gate near the main entrance, under the city bus turnaround. Visitors can take advantage of parking at a discounted price of 50 CZK.
Thanks to a special route, the Light Zoo is also accessible to people with disabilities. As this is an outdoor exhibition, it is advisable to check the weather forecast before visiting.
