An exhibition of video footage and artworks, held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's Resistance against Japanese aggression and in World War II, as well as the "Echoes of Peace" cultural exchange event organized by CMG, were held in Abu Dhabi on August 21.
Shen Haixiong, Director of CMG, checked in with the participants via video link.
The event was attended by more than 60 guests, including the Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Zhang Yiming, Chairman of the Dubai Centre for Strategic Studies UAE Mohamed Firas Alnaeb, well-known Middle Eastern writer and media activist Khaled Omar and representatives of the business and media circles.
Shen Haixiong recalled that President Xi Jinping has said that memories and the truth of history will never fade with time, and the inspiration they bring will forever illuminate the present and the future. He also pointed out that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
"Eighty years ago, under the banner of the National United Front against Japan, founded and led by the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people fought unwaveringly and courageously. By mutually supporting the forces of justice throughout the world, the Chinese people have achieved victory over fascism. Remembering the past is a lesson for the future. History is the best textbook. In today's turbulent world, we must draw wisdom and strength from this magnificent history and face our common challenges together. It is only by remembering history that we can consistently promote peace, defend justice and law, and build a better future." Shen said.
Zhang Yiming stressed that the world war against fascism was unprecedented in human history. China, which sacrificed 35 million people, supported the main battlefields in the anti-fascist East and made an indelible and significant contribution to the victory of the world anti-fascist war.
"Let's celebrate this great victory to promote even more strongly the international system, with the UN at its core, and an international order based on international law," Zhang added.
