IN MARCH is most at risk, according to TCM. Gallbladder. Functionally, the cang organ is associated with the liver. It is classified not only among the six fu, but also among the so-called special fu organs.
The gallbladder controls the storage and excretion of bile, which is produced by the accumulation of liver qi, then flows into the gallbladder, is stored there, and is therefore called a storage facility. Bile is a greenish-yellow fluid with a bitter taste, whose main function is to aid the process of digestion and thus also to promote the proper functioning of the spleen and stomach.
The ability to judge things correctly and to make quick and decisive decisions depends on the balance of the gallbladder qi. The gallbladder controls decisiveness, which is reflected in the mental state, the character traits of a person. The liver is the commander-in-chief, but it takes its decisiveness from the gall bladder. Even if the liver qi is strong, without the gallbladder it has no decisiveness. The liver and gallbladder help each other and from this boldness and courage are born. According to the organ clock, the gallbladder works the most between 11pm-1am, so it is advisable to support its activity at this time.
How do we know if the gallbladder is weakened?
Disease processes in the gallbladder are associated with its main function of storing bile and subsequently supporting the digestive functions of the spleen and stomach through its secretion. If the secretion of bile is not in order, the functions of the spleen and stomach are weakened. Digestive disorders such as bloating and diarrhoea occur. If the liver and gall bladder are blocked by 'wet fever', the liver cannot maintain proper internal patency and bile is passed outside the small intestine into the blood. We can tell by the appearance of jaundice, yellowing of the eyes and skin.
The gallbladder qi in a normal situation drops down. If some morbid cause causes it to reverse its flow, bitterness in the mouth and dryness in the throat appear from the heat in the gall bladder. Other symptoms are vomiting of bitter juices, palpitation, dizziness. The bitterness blocks the secretion of bile, hence the disturbances in the stomach and spleen, which are manifested by bloating, belching or the appearance of sour juices.
A strong gallbladder qi means resistance to stress.
The state of the gallbladder qi determines the degree of resistance to strong stress influences (fear, anger) and their possible outcome in disease, as it influences the normal circulation of qi and blood, and helps to maintain balanced relationships between the organs. People with a strong gallbladder qi are not as susceptible to psychological stresses and cope with them easily. An empty or weakened gallbladder qi, on the other hand, results in increased sensitivity to negative influences. It manifests itself in states of anxiety, worry, lack of decisiveness, as well as sleep disturbances, numerous dreams, heart palpitations, irritability, urges to vomit and dizziness.
What foods help us strengthen the gallbladder?
The gallbladder needs detoxification and support in regeneration. Start each morning with a glass of warm water with lemon. In spring, warmer meals, steamed vegetables combined with raw vegetables are suitable. Consume anything that is starting to grow (mustard leaves, watercress, spinach, dandelion leaves). Also include pickled fermented vegetables, sauerkraut, from cereals add bulgur, couscous, wheat, spelt, rice, rye. Anything sprouted is suitable.
The taste of the wood element is sour, so consume anything naturally sour. The sour taste is astringent, suitable for preventing the loss of body juices, thus preventing sweating and diarrhea. However, an excess of it leads to water retention. The sour taste moves the qi in the body inwards and downwards, which is useful in cases of internal heat, emotional irritability, anger and sleep disorders.
Against the formation of stones are good nuts, beans, peas, soybeans. There are also many herbs with bitterness that aid digestion, promote proper gallbladder function. Peppermint effectively regulates digestion, thyme also promotes bile production. Mix your teas with herbs such as peppermint, lemon balm, chicory leaf, you can also add blackberry leaf, calendula flower, turmeric root, burdock root, crabapple or oman root.
