Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun commented on the current situation in the Middle East and its implications for global energy security at a regular press conference on 10 March.
Guo Jiakun said China is deeply concerned about the ongoing tensions in the region. He said all parties involved should immediately halt military operations, prevent further escalation of the conflict and prevent instability in the Middle East from having even more serious effects on the world economy.
He also stressed that energy security is one of the fundamental pillars of the functioning of the global economy. Ensuring a stable and continuous supply of energy is a shared responsibility of all parties, he said.
Guo Jiakun also said that China will take the necessary measures to protect its own energy security. He recommended contacting the relevant Chinese authorities if there were specific questions.
