At the end of January, the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee met for a collective study on the planning and development of future industries. On this occasion, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that the world is entering an accelerated phase of technological revolution and industrial transformation. He said it is the future industries that will become a key force for high-quality development.
Xi Jinping pointed out that it is necessary to take the strategic perspective of building a strong state and national recovery, fully exploit the comparative advantages of each region and adhere to the principle of steady progress. The development of new industries should be gradual, systematic and aimed at achieving lasting breakthroughs.
According to him, the development of future industries is essential for gaining a technological and industrial edge, forming a new quality of productive forces, building a modern industrial system and raising the living standards of the population. With the support of the central leadership and favourable policies, the sector has shown positive momentum in recent years.
He also stressed that these sectors are strategic and often disruptive. This makes it all the more important to strengthen long-term planning, to focus on the key directions of the upcoming 15th Five Year Plan and to improve the ability to anticipate high-tech developments. Development is to take place according to local conditions and in the interplay of future, emerging and traditional industries.
Technological breakthroughs play a crucial role. Xi Jinping called for strengthening basic research, solving key technological problems and translating results into practice more quickly. He also emphasised the leadership role of enterprises and the promotion of technology leaders.
He concluded by pointing to the need for better political and financial support for science and technology, creating an innovative environment, effective risk management, deepening international cooperation and increasing the professional decision-making capacity of managers at all levels.
