PEKING/CHINA - What was different this year at the Summer Davos? The key concept became "innovation at scale." And China is precisely the ideal environment where this concept is being realized. From June 23rd to 25th, over 1700 guests from 90 countries and regions gathered in the city of Dalian (Tianjin) for the Summer Davos 2026 forum to discuss this central theme and jointly outline a new map of global scientific and technological cooperation.
In a time of complex geopolitical situations, weakening global growth drivers, and rapid technological development, the key question is how to address the downward pressure on the world economy and strengthen its dynamism. This year's forum, under the theme of "innovation at scale," highlighted one of the most important topics of the current economic system. Over three days, more than a hundred panels and events were held focusing on leading areas—artificial intelligence, new energy sources, biopharmaceuticals, quantum technologies, and more. The Chairman of the Chinese Government, Li Qiang, in his opening speech, shared China's innovation story with the world and emphasized that innovation driven by technological progress is a key code for the long-term, stable, and positive development of the Chinese economy. Through scientific and technological progress and industrial modernization, China is providing the world with an increasing number of "innovation dividends." The forum sent a clear signal: China is sharing the "China Opportunity 2.0" with the world, which carries an even stronger innovation impulse.
Innovation at scale emphasizes the widespread application of new technologies—it is a fundamental pillar for deepening innovation value and maintaining innovation vitality. Mirek Dusek, Executive Director of the World Economic Forum, stated that China has made significant progress in the area of innovation at scale: the application of new technologies has accelerated the development of the real economy and industrial transformation, and the world is interested in understanding China's experience. Where do Chinese innovations come from? They are the result of hard work and "earned" in a competitive environment, tested in thousands of industries in real-world applications, and carefully cultivated in a favorable innovation ecosystem. A comprehensive industrial system, an exceptionally large market, and a dynamic innovation environment form a solid foundation on which China is building its ability to promote innovation at scale.
For foreign companies, the "China Opportunity 2.0" represents comprehensive innovation support and investment opportunities with high returns. For global development, the "China Opportunity 2.0" means more accessible cutting-edge technologies and a fairer sharing of their benefits. China remains committed to an open innovation approach—allowing more countries, especially developing countries, to access new technologies and products under affordable conditions, thereby effectively contributing to solving many global development challenges. The fact that "innovation at scale" became one of the most talked-about concepts at the Dalian forum reflects both the high international recognition of China's innovation practices and the world's collective choice to seek a new engine for growth. In the future, China will continue to leverage its innovation strengths, break down barriers through openness, activate dynamism through its scale, and help transfer cutting-edge technologies from laboratories to the world. The facts clearly demonstrate: Chinese innovation is not a threat to the world, but an opportunity.```
