Israel attacked a building belonging to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Iran in turn shot down an Israeli drone and continued strikes. Attacks are continuing in the Gaza Strip, yet the US administration believes that an agreement is likely to be reached in the end.

"Israel deliberately and recklessly attacked one of the buildings belonging to the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Several civilians were injured, including a number of my colleagues," wrote the Deputy Foreign Minister on social media Saeed Khatibzadeh.

Iran's air defence subsequently announced that it had shot down a US-made Israeli MQ-9 Reaper drone, Iranian state television reported. According to media reports, the aerial target was destroyed over the city of Dehloran near the Iran-Iraq border.

According to The Times of Israel, an Iranian rocket attack on Israel overnight today killed four people and injured approximately 100. Rescue workers search homes hit by Iranian rockets that landed in central and northern Israel.

According to the server, the Israeli emergency services said 87 people have sought medical attention at hospitals, with only a few in serious condition. However, the Haaretz daily estimated the number of injured at more than 100.

The death toll rose after rescuers pulled the body of a dead man from the rubble of a building. According to the newspaper, two more bodies were pulled from under the rubble in the town of Bat Yam, which has been hardest hit by strikes on civilian targets. In total, nine people died in the town.

The death toll from Iran's retaliatory strikes on Israel since the start of its operation has risen to 16, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Attacks on Gaza continue

At least 57 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, the enclave's health ministry said.

"In the last 24 hours, 57 dead and 315 wounded have been taken to hospitals in the Gaza Strip. The remains of eight people killed earlier have also been transferred and recovered from the rubble," the health ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, 5,071 people have been killed and more than 16,700 wounded in the Gaza Strip since Israel resumed hostilities on 18 March. The death toll has risen to 55,362 since 7 October 2023, with 128,741 people injured. Qatari television station Al Jazeera reports that at least 20 people were killed when the Israeli army shelled queues at food and humanitarian aid distribution points.

A possible settlement?

US President Donald Trump has assured that Washington will continue to provide defence assistance to Israel, but added that Israel and Iran are likely to agree to a cessation of hostilities, although it may not happen immediately.

"I hope there will be an agreement. I think it's time for a deal, and we'll see what happens." he said, answering questions from reporters before flying to Canada, where the G7 (UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, USA, France and Japan) summit will be held.

"But sometimes you have to fight for it," he added, referring to the possibility of continued military action. "We'll see what happens. I think there's a good chance there will be a deal," řekl.

The US President assured that Washington would continue to provide defence assistance to Israel. Trump declined to answer a question about whether he had asked Israel to suspend strikes on Iran.
