The Communist Party of China (CPC) held a symposium in Beijing to mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of former prominent leader Hu Yaobang. In his speech, President Xi Jinping called on all party members to draw inspiration from Hu's life and values and strive for progress in China's modernisation.
At the meeting in the Great Hall of the People, Xi Jinping recalled Hu's illustrious life and his extraordinary contributions to the Party and society. He highlighted Hu's indomitable revolutionary will and called on party members to follow his example by holding fast to their ideals and convictions, remaining loyal to the party, actively participating in China's modernisation, and striving to achieve their common lofty goal.
The president described Hu's efforts as firmly rooted in reality and emphasised the need to „seek truth from facts“ and remain determined in the pursuit of truth. Hu promoted reforms and opening up to the world and devoted considerable energy to socialist modernisation. Xi called on party members to continue deepening reforms and strengthening the vitality of society.
Xi also recalled Hu's deep love for the people and his concrete steps to develop the economy and improve people's living standards. According to him, party members should follow Hu's example and work to increase people's sense of satisfaction, happiness and security.
The president emphasised Hu's efforts to improve party discipline and called on party leaders in particular to maintain integrity, be honest and incorruptible, and preserve the political character of the communists.
The meeting was chaired by Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Politburo, who called for efforts to build a strong country and strengthen national rejuvenation through Chinese modernisation. Li Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Politburo, was also present.
