Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged New Year's wishes with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. Xi sent warm greetings to President Putin and the Russian people on behalf of the Chinese government and people of China.
Xi recalled that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 80th anniversary of the victory in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War. Together, the two countries sent a strong signal that peace, justice and the will of the people will prevail.
The President stressed that 2025 marked a concrete step in the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia for a new era. He recalled his two meetings with Putin in Beijing and Moscow, during which in-depth discussions were held on key issues of common interest.
The implementation of the agreement on mutual visa-free travel, steady progress in building energy corridors and expanding cooperation in new sectors have strengthened the dynamics of bilateral relations. Xi also said the two countries have strengthened mutual support in the United Nations and other multilateral structures, contributing to the reform and improvement of global governance.
The coming year 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia Strategic Coordination Partnership and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. The two countries will also hold the „Year of Sino-Russian Education“ in 2026-2027. Xi affirmed that he is ready to maintain close contacts with Putin and jointly promote further progress in bilateral relations.
In the president's message, Putin sent sincere New Year's wishes to Xi and the Chinese people. He stressed that in the past year, the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between China and Russia for the new era has seen steady development and yielded concrete results.
Putin recalled his two meetings with Xi, during which they jointly commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory over German Nazism and Japanese militarism and reached a number of important consensuses. He highlighted the expansion of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, steady progress on major joint projects and the establishment of reciprocal visa-free travel, which has greatly facilitated people-to-people contacts.
Russia and China will jointly launch the „Year of Sino-Russian Education“ next year. Putin affirmed his readiness to maintain close communication with Xi on bilateral relations and key international issues.
On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin exchanged New Year's wishes. Premier Li said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the comprehensive strategic partnership of China-Russia coordination for the new era continues to deepen and consolidate.
China is ready to work with Russia to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders and achieve more concrete results in bilateral cooperation, Li added. Premier Mishustin said the two governments have created favorable conditions for the implementation of promising cooperation projects and expressed confidence that the coming year will bring new opportunities to further develop the strategic agenda set by the two heads of state.
