China supports Iran in maintaining national stability and stresses that the use of military force cannot solve the region's current problems. Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, made the remarks at Tuesday's high-level UN Security Council debate on the situation in the Middle East.
Fu Cong recalled that issues concerning Iran should be resolved autonomously by the Iranian people themselves, without outside interference. He said China hopes and supports Iran in maintaining national stability and stands by it in protecting its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
The Chinese representative also warned that force is not the way to solve complex regional problems. Any military adventure, he said, would only deepen insecurity and could plunge the entire region into an unpredictable spiral of escalation.
Fu Cong further said that China calls on all parties to respect the goals and principles of the UN Charter, to refuse to interfere in the internal affairs of other states and to refrain from the threat or use of force in international relations. He especially appealed to the United States and other relevant actors to listen to the calls of the international community and countries in the region, take steps to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and not contribute to further increasing tensions.
