Chinese Vice President Han Zheng has put forward a four-point proposal to promote social development around the world. In his address to the plenary session of the ongoing Second World Summit on Social Development in Doha, he recalled the success of the first World Summit on Social Development held in Copenhagen in March 1995, where participants adopted the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and Programme of Action.
He stressed that the concept of building a community with a shared future for humanity, as well as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, all proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, have set the course for advancing global social development. In his speech, Han put forward a four-point proposal to promote global social development.
First, adherence to the people-oriented principle. Second, focusing on common development goals. Third, adherence to the principle of common benefit and inclusiveness. Fourth, fostering a spirit of solidarity and cooperation.
China, Han said, looks forward to working with all parties to use this Summit as an opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and Programme of Action, to strengthen global social development and to make a greater contribution to building a community with a shared future for humanity.
The second World Summit for Social Development is taking place in Doha to take stock of progress made since Copenhagen, set a roadmap for advancing social development and accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. More than 30 heads of state or government and over 100 ministerial-level representatives are expected to attend the event.
