The joint military strike by the United States and Israel against Iran has provoked a strong public reaction around the world. This is according to an international poll published by CGTN television.

The attack took place on 28 February. According to available information, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. Iran subsequently responded with attacks on several US military bases in the Middle East and also on Israeli targets. The situation thus escalated rapidly and significantly increased tensions throughout the region.

A CGTN poll published among internet users worldwide shows a highly critical public attitude towards this military operation. A total of 93.9 % respondents said they condemn the military action of the United States and Israel against Iran. In their view, it is a violation of Iran's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. They also called for an immediate halt to military operations to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Other questions in the survey focused on the broader implications of the current situation for the international system. As many as 94.7 % respondents said that the United States' increasing disregard for international law and the rules of international relations could undermine confidence in multilateral mechanisms and disrupt global strategic stability.

The survey was published on CGTN's platforms in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian. A total of 23,464 respondents from different parts of the world participated in the first 24 hours.
