In an interview with China Media Group, Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG, praised the ongoing reforms and opening of the Chinese market to foreign companies. He said China's emphasis on developing a new, high-quality productive workforce presents major opportunities for Siemens and the global economy as a whole.
Busch stressed that Siemens is active in China for more than 150 years and currently employs around 30 000 people, of which 5 000 in the field of research and development. The company has more than 12 000 active patents. "Our strategy of localising product development for the Chinese market is proving to be the right one," he said.
One of the key topics of conversation was data sharing a cross-border transfer of informationthat are necessary for the application of artificial intelligence and digitalisation. Busch praised the Chinese government's efforts to create an open and transparent data environment, which is "very close to Siemens' heart".
On the forum China Development Forum 2025 Busch highlighted three main areas where he believes China is surprising:
- Depth of structural reformsthat strike at the very 'operational core' of the economy.
- Annual progress on a fair market environment.
- Ability to adapt and transform quicklythat often exceeds expectations.
He concluded that China is becoming not only a market but also a source of of global innovation: "The Chinese market and its people are extremely relevant - not only for local growth, but also for our global development."
