The wave of protests against ICE raids quickly spread from Los Angeles to other US cities. Demonstrations in response to the policies of President Donald Trump's administration are taking place in Washington D.C., Chicago, New York, Seattle, Boston, Philadelphia, Austin and other cities.
While most of the protests are taking place peacefully, in some cases there were clashes with police, arrests and the use of chemical means. In New York, there was a large demonstration in downtown Manhattan, while in Chicago, over 1 000 people. Hundreds rally in Boston in support of detained union leader David Huerta.
The Trump administration has said it will continue immigration operations regardless of the protests. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem declared that "ICE will continue to enforce the law."
Governors of some states, including Texas, activated the units National Guard to deploy at the sites of planned demonstrations. The protests are expected to culminate this weekend in a series of events called "No Kings"to coincide with Trump's military parade in Washington.
