On June 9th, the second World Conference on Classical Studies was held in Athens, Greece, with the theme "Dialogue between Past and Present: Modern Inspiration from Classical Wisdom." The conference was attended by over 200 people, including representatives from Chinese and Greek government bodies, experts and scholars in classical studies and related fields from around the world, as well as ambassadors from various countries in Greece and media representatives.
Participants noted that since the successful holding of the first World Conference on Classical Studies in Beijing in November 2024, the Chinese and Greek sides have been actively working together to implement the results of the first conference and are building a network for exchange and dialogue in the field of classical studies. Academic institutions, including the Chinese Institute for the Study of Classical Civilization, are leveraging their strengths to support the dynamic development of classical studies, playing a significant role in promoting mutual learning, mutual enrichment, and the connection of human civilizations.
Participants believe that classical civilization is characterized by a rich humanistic heritage and unique wisdom, and has always provided spiritual support for the development of humanity and a driving force for the prosperity and progress of all nations. Deepening the study of classical subjects and fostering dialogue between civilizations across time and space is a necessary prerequisite for preserving the diversity of civilizations and promoting mutual exchange and learning among them. It is also an inevitable path to adapt to the trends of the times and to support the return of civilizations to their roots and their new flourishing.
The conference will also feature parallel sessions on topics such as "Morality and Education," "Brotherhood and Community," "Peace and Order," and "Technology and Civilization," as well as a series of events focused on cultural exchange.
