On 18 August, US President Donald Trump expressed his belief in Washington that there could be a trilateral meeting with Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky. "If everything works out today," Trump said, adding that such a meeting could offer "a reasonable chance of ending the war" na Ukrajině.
He also added that he believed in Putin's will to end the conflict, saying at a White House press conference before meeting with Zelensky: "I believe Vladimir Putin wants it to end."
During the press conference, Zelensky commented on the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine. He said that he was open to holding them, but stressed that secure conditions must first be ensured. "We are open to the possibility of elections," responded to a reporter's question, but added that a ceasefire and other security measures were necessary before the elections. Whereupon Trump laughed and replied that that was good, so if the US is at war with someone, they won't have to hold elections.
