The Chinese government's special envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, met with Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on March 15, 2026.

Zhai Jun said that the current regional situation continues to develop uneasily, and the Gulf countries, including Kuwait, are deeply affected, which the Chinese side does not want to see. The United States and Israel have launched military strikes against Iran without the authorisation of the UN Security Council, which is a clear violation of international law, and the Chinese side strongly opposes this.

At the same time, China condemns all attacks indiscriminately on innocent civilians and non-military targets and believes that the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the Gulf Cooperation Council member countries should be fully respected, energy, economic and other non-military targets should not be attacked and the security of maritime routes should not be disrupted. A ceasefire and an end to the war are the most urgent tasks, and the international community should call on the parties involved to end the conflict immediately and prevent further deterioration of the tense situation. The Chinese side appreciates that the Kuwaiti side remains restrained and insists on a calm response, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Kuwaiti side and play a constructive role in defusing the situation.
